Growing up on Canada’s East Coast, I joined Kelson Group in January 2020 as the Property Manager for Alberta. After working in the industry for over two decades, I was ready to take on a new challenge and be part of a company that genuinely lives out its core values and allows me to make a difference in the lives of residents, employees, and the community.
As a Property Manager, every day looks different, but the opportunity to make a positive impact is always there, and that is the most exciting part for me. My primary responsibility is to support Building Managers in operations at properties, help review budgets and provide guidance, keep owners informed of major items, and act as the communication liaison between property owners and building employees and residents.
My job also includes ensuring laws and regulations are followed to the best of our knowledge and ability and implementing long-term planning with the leadership team.
Similarly, Building Managers are the front line for Kelson Group’s brand and reputation, working to provide exceptional customer service to prospects and residents and building positive and professional relationships with our contractors and industry peers. Their main responsibilities revolve around the daily operations of the buildings, maintaining safe, comfortable, clean, and functioning homes and buildings for residents, renting suites, and often taking care of any resident issues or maintenance requests.
Together, both Property and Building Managers do their best to incorporate and live out Kelson Group’s vision, mission and values in all operations, and work together to help prospects find their ideal home, one that helps them live better.
Working for a well-established and respected company like Kelson Group, I take great pride in the strong employee retention we experience. Building a cohesive, motivated team where employees feel supported is one of the most rewarding aspects of my role.
Currently our Alberta portfolio has twenty-eight employees, and we are in the process of filling two more positions. With such a large and diverse group, it’s important for me to set clear expectations and ask what I can do to help them succeed. Another big part of what we do to foster strong relationships amongst ourselves is having annual team events, employee barbeques, as well as training opportunities and team meetings.
To maintain positive relationships with employees and residents, I have found that honesty and open communication go a long way. When we listen attentively to both sides of an issue, show genuine respect and concern, and work together to find mutually beneficial solutions, the outcome is usually positive.
At Kelson Group, we are always looking for motivated individuals who have a positive attitude, as well as an interest in learning and improving their skills and knowledge. A willingness to collaborate with others, offer help and contribute to a shared vision while keeping safety at the top of mind is also critical for success. Those interested in joining our team can expect to be met with understanding, support, fairness, and ample opportunity for growth.
Having been here for almost five years, I can honestly say I am proud to work at Kelson Group, because I believe in how employees and residents are treated, and the quality of homes we provide. I am especially proud of how the owners have prioritized their employees’ well-being and consistently made decisions to invest in people for the long term.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about continuing my career with Kelson Group. One of my goals is to retain our current team members, and another is to help grow a successful renovation team for years to come.
With 50 years of success, Kelson Group’s commitment to doing the right thing, as well as its culture of caring and quality service, continues to thrive. I look forward to many more years of contributing to that legacy.
