Kelson Group’s Edmonton Team is all Heart, Soul, and Creativity!
Poverty is unignorable. For many of us who have great spaces and places to live, being homeless or not having housing security adds pressure and strain to every day living. It's with this in mind that the Alberta division of Kelson Group was able to present a donation to the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region, and it all started with a lot of love, passion, and the endless creativity of a Building Manager in Leduc.
"I love to crochet, and I've been doing so for years," says Sharon Perron, who along with her husband Kip, is an on-site Building Manager at Sunronita House, a Kelson Group apartment in Leduc. "Last year, I crocheted two throws for a group fundraiser, and this year I wanted to do it again because last year's fundraiser was such a success."
Sharon crocheted a beautiful throw, this time in beautiful rich colours that compliment Kelson Group's brand colours, the property management company she and Kip work for. Raffle tickets were sold, and the group raised an impressive $450!
"We were so pleased to once again see our team support Sharon's efforts by participating," said Jason Fawcett, Vice President of Operations, Kelson Group. "When our team goes above and beyond their regular duties and roles, investing their time and energy into helping others, it's our pleasure to come alongside and do what we can do to show our support as a company."
Kelson Group matched the $450 raised by the team to ensure the gift was amplified to have maximum impact for the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region. And the United Way team was pleased to be the recipient of the donation.
"Poverty is the most debilitating social issue our community is dealing with today," said Angela Schmuland, Senior Administrative Specialist of the United Way of the Alberta Capital Region. "It really strips people of self-esteem, robs children of their true potential, and is an enormous hit on our economy. The reality is that poverty holds us all back.
When we learned of this wonderful donation and how it was a group effort of individuals to come together to create a different reality with their gift, we were so touched! We are so grateful. On behalf of United Way and the community we serve, thank you to Kelson Group and their team for their generosity".
Kelson Group provides apartments to help residents live better and believes supporting non-profit agencies like the United Way makes change happen in community to help everyone live a little better.
"I'm so happy that for the second year in a row, this small idea turned into something so great for our team to come together to support," said Sharon. "It's nice to raise money for people who are in need!"
